Restaurant ABOVE Algund

A house
with history

For centuries, this place has been closely connected to the landscape of Algund. Our restaurant was first documented in the 13th century, when the historic Waal irrigation channel was created. Even today, the channel flows directly below our panoramic terrace.

The irrigation channel became the famous Algund Waal Path.  Algund Waal Path, is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Merano region. Following the gentle course of the water, you will find our restaurant, where history, nature and hospitality come together.

Family MANAGEMENT

The family
behind it

Hospitality has always been a family affair for us. Together with our son Thomas and his partner Marion, we run our restaurant in Algund with passion, dedication and a personal touch.

Following an extensive renovation in 2019, we continue to invest in the future of the house with three holiday apartments.

As a business family, we are involved in every detail and we are proud to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for our guests.

The best of tradition and modernity

Feeling at home, South Tyrolean style

Inside, the rustic parlours tell the story of the past region’s farming and create a warm, traditional atmosphere. The new, light-filled spaces provide a deliberate modern touch, bringing a sense of quite to the house, inspired by the surrounding nature. Outside, the sun-drenched panoramic terrace with its natural pergola opens up to a place to relax. High above the rooftops of the city of Merano, a symbiosis of tradition, modernity and nature is created.

Our Leiter am Waal restaurant, located on the Algund irrigation channel, has become a truly atmospheric spot for culinary delights. The ideal address for special occasions in Meran: family celebrations, birthdays, Christmas dinners or business lunches in a traditional setting for all ages.

Bridging two culinary worlds

Alpine-Mediterranean cuisine

Wiener schnitzel with golden roasted potatoes, Schlutzkrapfen with melted butter, dumplings and gnocchi in all variations, as well as bacon and cheese plates – these are just some of the dishes that remind you while thinking about South Tyrol.

In our restaurant with terrace near Merano, we serve these classics in a modern, contemporary style. With genuine warmth and in an extraordinary setting in the vineyards above Algund.
